The workshop
Pascale MESTRE's Workshop joins the Apt’s earthenware history. This territory, in Luberon valley situated in heart of Provence, heirship of a long tradition. The excellent quality of clay facilitate the pottery development in the area. Settled in Gordes in 1999 then in Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt in 2005, Pascale Mestre, in the beginning, modeled figurines, still-life plates and panels decorated on terra-cotta squares now she turns more to the art of table decoration and works with mixed marbled clays. The worked clay is natural or tinged with oxides as copper, cobalt, chromium and it is in the greatest secret that she makes the delicate mixture of clays; it is then that the drawing joins into the thickness of the dough. Plates, bowls and many other objects are figured either with plaster moulds, or with casting or still at the turn table. For certain objects of small pattern such a rose, a stalk of olive tree in raw clay are stuck with a barbotine. It is only for unique objects.
